Online Multimedia Reources to Enhance All K-12 Instruction

by WPS Media Specialist David Privett

Below are some online resources I have located through peer recommendation, professional journal recommendations, and some I have just come across through my own searching. In an attempt to keep this page as up-to-date and useful as possible, please report all dead links or new links you would like added to dprivett@esu2.org.

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE)

A site hosted by the federal government with free animations, primary documents, photos, and videos in the areas of Arts & Music, Health & Phys. Ed., History & Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, and Science. Definitely worth checking out!

-------------------------

freeplaymusic

A collection of free instrumental music files for you to download and use.

-------------------------

GlogsterEDU

A collaborative online learning platform for teachers and students to express their creativity, knowledge, ideas and skills in the classroom by creating online digital posters.

-------------------------

Google's LIFE photo archive
Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750's to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint work of LIFE and Google.

-------------------------

HippoCampus
HippoCampus offers multimedia lessons and course materials to help you with your instruction, homework and studies. You can browse multimedia lessons or complete courses, and find help with the topics covered in popular textbooks. Multiple resources are available, for free, for the subjects of Algebra, American Government, Biology, Calculus, Environmental Science, Physics, Psychology, Religion, Statistics, and U.S. History.

-------------------------

The History Channel
A collection of historical speeches and videos

-------------------------

Internet Archive
"Universal Access to Human Knowledge"
A useful multimedia collection, including images, music, audio, and texts. A great site to use for enhancing those PowerPoint presentations!

-------------------------

PowerMediaPlus
For those of you who are mourning the loss of United Streaming, you will want to check out this site! PowerMediaPlus is the new multimedia streaming site provided through ESU2. It offers a vast collection of video, audio, images, print resources, and podcasts. All files can be streamed, or saved to your computer. See Mr. Privett for your user name and password.

-------------------------

Prezi.com

"Create astonishing presentations live and on the web." A very nice (and FREE!) alternative to PowerPoint.

-------------------------

SchoolTube (Mr. Privett is a moderator for this site. If you have a video clip you would like uploaded to this site, simply forward the clip to him via e-mail or burned on a CD.)

TeacherTube

The above are two safe alternatives to YouTube.

-------------------------

SnagFilms.com

Free online documentary films available in the following topics: Arts, Campus, Environment, Health, History, International, Life & Culture, Music, Political, Religion & Spirituality, Science & Nature, Short Film, Sports & Hobby, War and Women's Issues.

-------------------------

TED.com

"Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world."

-------------------------

YouTube
No summary needed! Yes--we have been forced to block this site during school hours due to a high level of abuse (darn kids!), but nonetheless, this site has tons of good stuff!

-------------------------

WingClips

This site offers thousands of clips from popular movies that are arranged by theme. If you're doing a lesson over "cheating" or "bullying", for example, this site will allow you to download video clips (for free!) that correlate with these topics. Should be a great site for all teachers who teach any type of life skill, and for coaches who are looking for video clips to inspire/motivate. Thanks to Mrs. Egr for sharing this site!
